The Allurion gastric balloon program is a medical innovation and starts with swallowing the capsule. The swallowable gastric balloon is an aid to weight loss. So no endoscopy, surgery or anesthesia.

The gastric balloon is placed in the stomach and takes up about a third of the volume of your stomach. The balloon makes you feel satiated, so you eat less often and smaller portions.

The balloon not only suppresses the feeling of hunger (you are literally a little “full”) – the balloon also causes the communication between your stomach and brain to change. A complicated process, but it also makes you less likely to have hunger pangs over time. In good Dutch: have “cravings” less often.

After 4 months, the gastric balloon leaves your body through the natural way. During the process, you lose about 10 – 15% of your body weight; in practice, about 10 to 15 pounds.

The balloon will be in the body for 16 weeks after placement. That is also the period when you will lose the most weight. No, a gastric balloon is not dangerous. At the Allurion Clinic we specialize in this program, also we have received the Center of Excellence seal of approval for this. Our bariatric physician Dr. Aarts has 13 years of experience in the profession, so you can follow the program with confidence.

The treatment is completely harmless. It is true that the first weekend after placement is equally tough. Most people suffer from nausea. You will be given special medication for this, and fortunately after a few days it is completely over and you won’t notice anything from the gastric balloon. In very rare cases, people continue to have symptoms and the gastric balloon must be removed.

Dr. Edo Aarts is a gastric surgeon and will perform a thorough examination of your medical history and to assess whether the Allurion gastric balloon is right for you. The Allurion gastric balloon is placed during a short 20-minute treatment. After Dr. Aarts’ approval, most people immediately return to normal activities.

Over the next 5 months, you will be wirelessly connected via the Allurion Bluetooth scale to the smartphone App in which your progress will be monitored by the expert team.

At the end of this period, the Allurion gastric balloon deflates and automatically leaves the body through the natural route.

The Allurion Clinic is under the direction of Dr. Edo Aarts, who is fully specialized in the treatment of obesity. Dr. Aarts leads the treatment team and performs the placements. His years of experience provide many satisfied clients who continue through life at a healthy weight.

In addition, you will have your own coach. Our lifestyle coaches support you during the Allurion gastric balloon program. The gastric balloon combined with changes in exercise and diet is the key to permanent weight loss. During 6 months you will therefore be intensively guided by one of our lifestyle coaches.

After the gastric balloon leaves your body naturally and painlessly through the natural way, your body is used to it and feels healthy and energetic with smaller portions of food.

You can basically eat anything, but you will find that you have much less appetite and are satiated much faster. Your lifestyle coach will advise you on proper, healthy eating.

The total cost for the gastric balloon program is €4,195.

The Allurion program includes: medical intake, the Allurion gastric balloon placement, lifestyle program with personalized support from a lifestyle coach for nutrition and exercise advice.

This program is supported with an Allurion Bluetooth scale and Allurion app to track your progression.

Allurion gastric balloon treatment is not covered by your health insurance and falls under our Private Care treatments.

Gastric balloons are not covered by most health insurance companies. Often this is classified as cosmetic treatment, which puts them outside of health insurance. On rare occasions, some health insurance companies are willing to issue reimbursement from basic insurance, but this has not yet occurred at Allurion Clinic.

Allurion Clinic partners with Cosmetic Finance. With a loan through Cosmetic Finance, the opportunity is offered to not have to save for a long time first to pay the bill of €4,195.
